National hockey camp for Asia Cup:
National hockey training camp for Asia Cup was underway at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Tuesday.
A member of the hockey team Yasir Islam was wounded when a ball hit his chin.
Manager-cum-chief coach Islahuddin supervised physical fitness and training session in the morning session.
In the evening session yesterday during match practice Yasir Islam was injured when a ball hit his chin and he got three stitches for the cut. He has attended the training session this morning, Islahuddin said.
The team will leave for Asia Cup on August 26, to contest in the tournament in Chennai (India) from August 30 to September 10.
CNS Open Squash to begin on Sept. 3
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Open Squash Championship will begin on September 3 in Karachi.
Squash players from Egypt, England, Malaysia, Australia and Belgium expected to contest in the tournament along with the hosts.
Sixteen players will participate in each round of the event including pre-qualifiers, qualifiers and the main round.
Egypt’s world number 12 Karim Darwesh will be the top seed. Pakistan’s Shahnawaz has been awarded wild card entry.
The final of the US$ 25,000 purse tournament will be played on September 8.
Aamir wins the CAS International Squash C'ship
Aamir Atlas won the CAS International Squash Championship title after overcoming the world no. 17 Mohammad Azlan Iskandar of Malaysia on Tuesday here at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex.
Amir Atlas who was seeded 4th won the first set 11-5 but lost later two consecutive sets 6-11, 6-11 to second favourite of the tournament. In the fourth set, the contest was neck and neck which Aamir won11-10 (5-3). Aamir won the fifth set 11-6 to claim the title of $25,000 championship.
World No. 29 Aamir earlier in the semifinal defeated World No. 19 and favourite Ong Beng Hee also of Malaysia 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6 in 45 minutes.
Final Match Result: Aamir Atlas Khan (PAK) bt Mohammad Azlan Iskandar (MAS) 11-5,6-11,6-11, 11-10(5-3), 11-6 (60 Minutes)
National Jr U-19 Hockey C’ship begins in F’abad
The 27th National Junior Under-19 Hockey Championship has commenced today in Faisalabad. Nazim of Iqbal Town Faisalabad Sajjad Haider Cheema inaugurated the championship.
National Bank defeated Pakistan Navy by five goals to two in the opening match played here today.
In other matches, Pakistan Railway, Habib Bank, Pakistan Army and Balochistan emerged as winners.
On this occasion, Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation Olympian Khalid Mahmood expressed hope that this event would be held in Faisalabad in a better way
