Cellphone makers are gearing up to launch slick new models, giving a sneak peek to visitors at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association's annual convention in April. This year's crop of high-end phones will be packed with upgrades such as improved cameras, video conferencing, and touch screens.

Here are some of the hottest mobile phones scheduled to hit the market in the coming months.

Samsung Instinct

Features: Samsung's challenge to the iPhone caused perhaps the most buzz at the CTIA conference.



The Instinct phone offers GPS, a full Internet browser, and the ability to watch live TV on its 3-inch touch screen. Sprint will be the only provider selling the phone when it hits the market.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia

Features: Samsung certainly isn't the only phone maker jumping on the touch-screen bandwagon in hopes of catching a piece of iPhone's market share.



Sony Ericsson's new Xperia X1 phone offers touch navigation, a full keyboard that slides out, and handwriting recognition. It also features a nine-panel menu that users can customize. Like the iPhone, the Xperia will include the usual high-end functions, such as video streaming, Web access with RSS feeds, and Windows mobile tools.

New Cyber-shot phones

Features: Sony Ericsson recently announced several additions to its Cyber-shot camera phones. One new model, the C702a, is dust- and splash-resistant and offers a global positioning system that lets users organize their snapshots based on where they were taken.



Its new C902, pictured, offers a 5.0-megapixel camera with auto focus and flash. Its "BestPic" feature allows users to take nine shots rapidly, letting them pick the best photo. Users can also create photo galleries that incorporate music and other flourishes.

LG Vu

Features: LG makes the most of the Vu's 3-inch touch screen by offering AT&T's splashy mobile TV and a full Web browser. Users will also be able to stream digital radio from XM Satellite Radio directly to their phones.

Nokia N96

Features: Nokia has also joined the touch-screen horse race with its N96. YouTube enthusiasts will enjoy its 2.8-inch-wide screen. The device's 5.0-megapixel camera has automatic focus and flash. The phone's face slides to reveal separate buttons for video and phone use.

Verizon XV6900

Features: Verizon designed the XV6900 for business customers looking for the full cadre of office tools. Users can not only browse the Internet and take photos — they can edit Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the device's 2.8-inch touch screen.

Velocity 103

Features: Velocity Mobile, a new smart phone developer, made its debut at the CTIA conference with two new products. Both devices seek to woo the business market with videoconferencing cameras.

The Velocity 103 features a touch screen and offers standard high-end features, such as a 2.0-megapixel camera and Windows Mobile software.

Velocity 111

Features: Velocity Mobile's other new phone, the Velocity 111, takes on BlackBerry with its full keyboard. The device also has a touch screen, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and GPS.

Motorola Rokr E8

Features: Motorola's upgraded Rokr is a phone for music lovers. The device, which is also designed to serve as a digital music player, features virtual keys with backlit labels that change based on the function in use. The buttons use "haptic" technology, which creates a tactile response when pressed.

BlackBerry Curve 8330

Features: Research in Motion said the latest addition to its Curve line is the smallest BlackBerry to feature a full keyboard. Unlike traditional models, the Curve 8330 offers video recording. The device can also stream live TV.
